Holiday Baskets Program
The Holiday Baskets Program is again underway to provide extra help to those in need this Holiday season. Christ Episcopal Church chairs this project sponsored by the Aspen Interfaith Association (AIA).
In answer to the frequently asked question “are there needy folks in this Valley?” the answer is an emphatic “yes”. The potential recipients live in the Aspen to Blue Lake area, and are referred to Holiday Baskets by local social service agencies such as The Buddy Program, Response, Community Health, Kids First, Basalt Family Resource Center to name a few. Local churches and schools familiar with family needs are also involved. Some of the recipients are those who ask for help from their community out of need. It is the goal of this project to give assistance to these people who need help at this special time of year– children, families, singles, the elderly and shut-ins.
Area churches, synagogues, schools, local groups and individuals are participating in the provisioning, assembling and distribution of the baskets. It is a true community effort and has been for over 25 years.
In 2006 we gave holiday baskets containing gifts and City Market food vouchers, for each child and adult, and diapers for the little ones. The program touched 303 families representing over 1457 people.
