Music at the Chapel
The Aspen Chapel’s music program is an integral part of both the Sunday worship services and community outreach.
Under the direction of Susan Nicholson, this program has become one of the staples of high art music in the area. She brings together an eclectic group of individuals that perform everything from high sacred music to jazz and gospel.
The Aspen Chapel Choir which performs throughout the year, consists of between 30 and 50 talented amateur and professional singers. They are known to perform some of the greatest and most challenging repertoire of Western culture, from Bach B Minor Mass to esoteric John Tavener.
The annual Lessons and Carols service the week before Christmas is a not to be missed event with over 40 singers and special guest instrumentalists.
The Bach Cantata each summer has been going strong for 15 years with Steven Finch from NY at the podium and music students from around the world performing. Also during this time in the summer, a Bach Aria service is offered in a sacred environment as Bach had intended.
The Chapel is filled with music during the summer months, both at Sunday services and during the week with concerts in conjunction with the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Different themes for concerts can be heard during the winter and spring months utilizing all the local talent we have in the valley. Easter services are always rousing with the Chapel Choir and trumpets. The music standard at the Chapel is very high and we approach all of this wonderful challenging music with verve and understanding of its role in regards to the spiritual growth of our congregation and visitors.
Please see the Aspen Chapel Calendar for details on upcoming musical events.
