Although we know that high school students in this valley are extremely busy, we do not want to give up the opportunity to offer programs at the Aspen Chapel that include them. We are happy to have high school students helping out with our Sunday School program. Currently, we have three fairly new programs that involve high school students, and are open for suggestions of other ideas for involving teenagers in our program.

Kids for Kids

This board is made up of several teens who have named themselves “Kids for Kids”. Since the founding members have graduated, a new crew has come together to take their place and carry on the mission of Kids for Kids. These new members include Emily Bonds, Brad Broeking, Nina Christensen, Justin Dahlberg, Jacob Kadota, Hannah Kaufman,Juliette Pisano, and Johnny Stryker.  They are an offshoot of The Good Samaritan Fund at the Aspen Chapel. Their mission is to raise money for children in need both in the valley and worldwide. They have sold ducks for the Ducky Derby, conducted bake sales and other fundraisers, and are asking for general donations as well. During the past five years, they have donated money to local organizations who help children, contributed to local families who were in need of assistance, helped children in Haiti, Africa and Afghanistan with various needs, along with other projects of this kind. Kids for Kids recently organized a service day at Windwalkers to help this local organization carry on their mission of offering equine therapy to many students.  Please contact Elaine if you are interested in helping to support this group, or if you are a high school student who is interested in joining the board.

High School Scholarships

This year, the Aspen Chapel awarded its fifth annual Aspen high school scholarships to five deserving students, Will Bloemsma, Connor Boyd, Melissa Carr, Obadiah Jones and Tess Stevens. Congratulations to all of them!  These scholarships were made possible due to the generous donations of many Aspen Chapel community members. Please contact Elaine if you are interested in contributing to the future scholarship fund.

Movie Nights

The Aspen Chapel Christian and Jewish congregations have come together to offer movie nights for Aspen area teens. These nights include a movie and discussion with Gregg Anderson, Shereen Sarick and special guests. Last year, “Jesus Camp”, “Letters from Africa”, and “Paperclips” were included in the movie and discussion series. Watch for new titles this year! All high school students are welcome to join, so come and bring a friend!
