High School Programs
Although we know that high school students in this valley are extremely busy, we do not want to give up the opportunity to offer programs at the Aspen Chapel that include them. We are happy to have high school students helping out with our Sunday School program. Currently, we have three fairly new programs that involve high school students, and are open for suggestions of other ideas for involving teenagers in our program.
Kids for Kids
This board is made up of seven teens who have named themselves “Kids for Kids”. Nic Broeking and Leanna Bonds are co-presidents, Tess Stevens and Lena Nicholson are co-vice presidents, Gina Nuzzo is secretary, and Simone Franklin and A.J. DeBoer are co-treasurers. They are an offshoot of The Good Samaritan Fund at the Aspen Chapel. Their mission is to raise money for children in need and they have decided to start in the roaring fork valley and hopefully branch out worldwide. They have sold ducks for the Ducky Derby, are planning bake sales and other fundraisers, and are asking for general donations as well. Please contact Elaine if you are interested in helping to support this group, or if you are a high school student who is interested in joining the board.
High School Scholarships
This year, the Aspen Chapel awarded its forth annual Aspen high school scholarships to seven deserving students. Leanna Bonds, who will be attending Chapman University, Nic Broeking and Brianna Mordkin who will be furthering their studies at Colorado University, Joanna Coffey who will be heading to New Hampshire to attend the University of New Hampshire, Simone Franklin who will be studying at Franklin College in Switzerland, Cody Horn who will be attending Colorado College and Austin Owen who will continue her education at the University of San Diego. Congratulations to all of them! These scholarships were made possible due to the generous donations of many Aspen Chapel community members. Please contact Elaine if you are interested in contributing to the future scholarship fund.
Movie Nights
The Aspen Chapel Christian and Jewish congregations have come together to offer movie nights for Aspen area teens. These nights include a movie and discussion with Gregg Anderson, Shereen Sarick and special guests. Last year, “Jesus Camp”, “Letters from Africa”, and “Paperclips” were included in the movie and discussion series. Watch for new titles this year! All high school students are welcome to join, so come and bring a friend!
